Thomas Nuttall (1786-1859) was one of the foremost botanical explorers of North American. In 1832 and 1833 on his first trip to the Rocky Mountains and Oregon, Nathaniel Wyeth collected many plant species for Nuttall. In 1834 when Nathaniel Wyeth made his second trip to the Rocky Mountains Nuttall traveled with him. In southern Idaho, Nuttall collected plants never seen by any biologist.
