Slender perennial herb which has a slender, unbranched stem 8-20 in tall. There are three to six flowers at the top of the stem with white or pinkish petals, 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and deeply cleft into 3 to 5 divisions. The leaves are 3/4 to 2 inches broad, mainly basal, almost round in outline, but variously cleaved and parted. It grows in rich loam soils in woodlands and among sagebrush 1250-3000 mountain altitude. It is widely distributed in the Intermountain region.
